What started out as a blistering cold morning turned into one of the
most amazing days on the trail. Conditions were perfect as the ground
was tacky and there wasn't a bit of dust! We could follow one after the
other on the descents without being blinded! This made for a fast and
efficient clinic.
Not only was the group positive and energetic but most important was
their ability to listen. Each student had a different skill set but all
of them were very attentive. After some explanation and demonstration
they seemed to get through all the obstacles with flow, safety and
speed.
I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to spend the day on
the trail with, it was a blast!!!
You guys rule! I hope to ride with you again!!!

Bikeskills goes to Grass Valley! Thanks to a highly motivated previous bikeskills student Joe and his assistent were treated to some great Nor Cal trails and a very interesting diverse group. From a begining couple to a up and coming pro downhiller this clinic covered a little bit of everything.
A big thank you to Layne for organizing the event and to everyone that came out! |

| Sea Otter Dual Slalom Clinic: Speed Secrets Shared |
|
Bikeskills extends its thanks to Fox Racing Shox, Suspension, Hayes Brakes, and WTB for making the clinic possible.
|
| Guest Instructor and Dual Slalom National Champion Kirk Voreis and Bikeskills’ Joe Lawwill teamed up to give some committed and lucky racers a clinic they won’t soon forget! Although some might have been put off by the difficult track conditions, the students in the clinic knew that tough settings make for the best learning opportunities.
From speed zapping mud, treacherous ruts, to multiple soil conditions, the students learned how to deal with them all: Kirk and Joe provided the students with the tools to succeed at speed.
Make sure to mark your calendar to attend a Bikeskills Special Racing, Jumping, or Trail Riding clinic at next year’s Sea Otter Classic! |

Backpacker Magazine
sponsors Bikeskills biggest trail riding clinic
to date!
Bikeskills' Joe Lawwill and Staff
lead 20 riders through Aliso Woods in Southern
California. |
 |
| Despite scorching
temps and demanding, loose, sandy riding conditions
all of the clinic attendees managed to complete
the ride without incident. Along the way they developed
new skills and came away with more capabilities
and confidence.
In
addition to receiving small group and one-on-one
instruction, the Bikeskills pros demonstrated
some advanced techniques. Here Joe Lawwill puts
his World Class skills to work scaling an obstacle
that the attendees had to see (and see many times)
to believe.
Suspension talk... questions ranging from “What is the purpose
of the rebound knob” to “What’s
the right suspension system for me” were
answered quickly and clearly by one of mountain
biking’s most knowledgeable suspension experts.
Stay tuned, we’ll be posting more information
and and photos from the clinics! |

Another
great day of riding and learning.
No rain and perfect riding conditions. The trails
at Tamarancho are designed so that they shed water
really well. Props go out to Jim Jacobsen and
all the others that are involved with designing
and maintaining the outstanding Tamarancho trail
system.
Todays clinic was the first clinic where everybody
was a first time Tamarancho rider. Everyone had
a great time and all said they would be back again
soon to ride the trails using all their newly
found skills. |

Rain in June?
You would think scheduleing clinics in June would
be a safe bet. However we almost rolled craps
as storm clouds continued to drop rain all the
way up to the night before the clinic! Luckily
most everyone stayed optimistic and took the chance
the skies would clear. Clear they did! Everyone
that kept the faith the weather reports were right,
were rewarded with perfect riding conditions and
a great day of learning and riding.

| Another great
trail riding clinic as evidenced by smiles all around.
This group of committed
mountain bikers illustrates the diversity of our
sport. They're also testimonial and proof that
riders, male and female, aged 12 to 50+ , can
develop and improve skills and capabilities that
will allow them to appreciate the fun, excitement
and challenge of mountain biking to its fullest.
Whether it was Bonnie grinning
ear to ear after making her first ever downhill
switchback, or young Will's look of confidence
when he executed a pair of flawless J-Hops, everyone
had a good time. |

Chris all had a great time riding in perfect conditions
at Camp Tamarancho. Be sure to catch up with us soon and

Joan mentioned many of the switchbacks she made today
was the first time she ever made them! Way to go! |

Another
father son clinic...
Bill and his 13 year old son
Will came out and joined me (Joe) for a great
day on the trails at Tamarancho. Riding conditions
were perfect...no dust, no mud and lots of sun.
I was really impressed by Will's
endurance, I can't believe he is only thirteen.
Must have something to do with all that soccer
he plays. He definitely has the makings of being
a great cyclist.
And props to pops for his perseverance
in trying to get the new skills down!
Good job to both of you!

Our
Future Champions - Team Mill Valley
To
be a true champion in mountainbiking - or any
sport for that matter - you must not only master
the sport specific skills but important life skills
as well. Getting there requires a lot of hard
work on the part of the athletes. It also requires
an equal or greater amount of work and commitment
by parents, coaches, even sponsors like Santa
Cruz Bicycles and Fox Suspension that see and
believe in the big picture that groups like Team
Mill Valley represent.
Without
all that hard work, our kids can't and won't learn
the skills they need to thrive in this increasingly
complex and intense world of ours. We're proud
to be playing a role in Team Mill Valley's continuing
development. |

First
father son trail riding clinic!
Steven and his
10 year old son Trevor made bikeskills history
by being the first father and son combo to go
on one of Joe Lawwill's 10 mile plus trail riding
clinics at Camp Tamarancho."Both Steven and
Trevor did a great job and I was so impressed
with Trevor's riding, especially for only being
10 years old! Maybe it had something to do with
the fact that Trevor had already taken a couple
of Chris Duncan's Jumping Clinics?"
